04 Editorial platform
A publishing tool for a small editorial team who were running the whole magazine out of a shared document. The brief was to stop them losing work, without making them learn software.
The first version tried to be a CMS and failed on contact with the actual workflow: editors wrote in one place, laid out in another, and the tool sat between them asking to be filled in. The second version inverted it — the document is the source of truth and the layout is derived from it.
Most of the work was in the edit surface. Autosave, real revision history, and an offline-tolerant sync layer so a dropped connection on a train never costs a paragraph.
