nWise makes software that lets people who are deaf, hard of hearing or deaf-blind make a phone call. Video, live text and voice, all in the same call. It is used by national relay services and emergency call centres.

Accessibility was the point, not a checklist at the end. The site is built keyboard-first, with proper headings and landmarks, focus you can always see, contrast that was measured rather than guessed, and motion that stops when the reader asks it to. A site about accessible communication does not get to be hard to use.

My colleague at Wirke designed it. I did the development. When something in the design would have shut someone out, we fixed it between us before it reached the code.

The homepage.

A laptop open on a rock outdoors, showing the nWise MMX product page headed 'Equality in every interaction'.
